Startup Weekend Evansville is an excellent way to find someone you can actually launch a startup with that shares a common mission: to change the world.  Our goal is to continue to create an environment where passionate people can come together to get things done; to learn, network, bridge the gap between trades, expose potential and see actual results.  We are proud to be a part of this type of innovative collaboration and we hope you will help us reach our goals by once again supporting this global movement on a local level.

Moving into our sixth year, Startup Weekend Evansville remains the largest event of its kind in Indiana.  Open regionally to all students and community, Startup Weekends are 54-hour events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers, and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups.

How does it work?
It is not just the idea, it is the team! Teams are formed around the most voted ideas on the first day, so you can contribute to the business idea that inspires you with your knowledge and experience. All are important in Startup Weekend. Starting on Friday with the turn of "open mic", attendees are invited to submit their best ideas live in one minute and entice other participants to join their team. After hearing all ideas a vote among the participants is to choose the most popular ideas, and people who have submitted these ideas will have the responsibility to team up with other participants depending on the needs of your idea. On Saturday and Sunday, the teams design and shape their startup with the help of mentors and facilitators to finally develop the business model. On Sunday evening the teams present their ideas/prototypes to a panel of judges and the top three ideas are selected as winners of the event.  Be a part of the empowered innovation movement.

Facilitators

Daniel Johnsen
Founder, The Recovery Station

Founder, The Recovery Station (winner of SW Lex 2013)
From:KY (we love bourbon), live in Louisville, KY; small stint in Charlotte, NC
Background: Founded a few companies, currently making a vending kiosk that dispenses pre/post workout drinks like protein shakes that are customizable and blended on-demand for everyday athletes in gyms (idea was the #1 placing idea at a Startup Weekend during a global startup battle).  I'm heavily active in Louisville & KY's startup scene where I help from basic mentoring with early stage ideas, organize Startup Weekends, throw happy hours for the startup & tech scene, the go-to person for pitch feedback before our area accelerator demo days, and random other items that I often forget and just do as they show up on my calendar.  I have a passion for asking some pretty forceful questions to get early stage entrepreneurs to evaluate their market, problem and solution and arrive at some decision point sooner rather than waiting 18+ months to launch MVPs, scale or bury the idea.
SW/UP: Been part of 13+ (?) Startup Weekends as: Sunday night observer x4; team lead x2; organizer x4; facilitator x1; judge x1; only KY rep for 2014 Vegas Summit; Startup Next participant x3 (I think I hold some type of non-verifiable record for as many ideas as I've taken through); Startup Next mentor x1
