Passionate about products and services that make our cities smarter?

This year Startup Weekend Utrecht is all about Smart Cities and making our cities better for living. The event will run on 14th-16th November at Hooghiemstra.

The theme Smart Cities is about developing products and services that make our cities better places to live. There is particular interest in building out new sharing economies, urban analytics, efficient and innovative transport/energy/utilities solutions, and smarter home or work spaces.

It's wide open to possibilities and we can't wait to see what our participants and teams can produce in 54 hours!

Want to see what it's like at a Startup Weekend? Check out the video below for a recap from last year's event or checkout our guide to Startup Weekend.

This project is made possible by the European Fund for Regional Development, investing in your future.

Roel Nuyts
Co-founder and Strategist at Aliens Are Among Us and Team51

Knowing only what happened at the edge of a singularity and being able to put something recognisable on canvas, I started as a programmer in the trenches at a financial institution. Around 2000 I escaped by riding the dot.com bubble as a freelancer until its’ collapse, after which I did some consulting, managing IT related projects for banks, multinationals and governmental agencies. Everything then changed when the iPad was released in 2010. Already firm believers in user interaction, my business partner and I promptly quit our day jobs and started our own company in a proverbial garage. 4 years later and a hell of a ride further we are proud to be at the helm of Aliens Are Among Us and Team51, both companies filled with talented people making solutions and products for businesses.

Martijn Geerlings
Head of Sales @ Optimizely, previously Google

After graduation he decided that internet is a lot more exciting than the municipality and left Amsterdam to go work for Google where worked on different products in different cities over the course of five years. About a year ago he joined Optimizely when they opened up their EMEA HQ in Amsterdam where he now heads up business development for the BNLX & Nordic markets. Get a hold of Martijn if you want to learn more about search advertising, conversion optimization and how these tools can be used for low-cost testing of ideas & functionalities.
