Startup Weekend Bhutan - Technology Edition

~~ Calling all aspiring entrepreneurs, developers, designers, dreamers and doers with ideas ~~ Startup Weekend® is a 54-hour event designed to provide superior experiential entrepreneurship education. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming and business plan development, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations. Participants create working startups during the event and win attractive prizes.

The third edition of Startup Weekend Bhutan will be hosted at Bhutan Innovation & Technology Centre, Thimphu TechPark, from 14th to 16th April, 2017 in collaboration with Techstars, the Department of IT & Telecom, MoIC and the Department of Employment, MoLHR. Food, drinks and snacks will be available to all participants at the venue. In this edition, the focus will be on ideas that use technologies such as the Internet, ecommerce, IT, mobile apps, animation, web etc.

All you need to do is come to the venue at 6 pm on Friday, 14th April. The

Speakers


Vijay Gurung
Head, ICT, Royal Thimphu College

 Vijay is from Samtse, Bhutan, and holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from Bhathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. After finishing my M.Sc IT, I worked for two years in Rigsum Institute of IT & Management in Thimphu as a principal and corporate trainer. Before joining RTC, worked in India as an Associate Developer in Drupal and PHP. He is also the Founder and Chief Technical Officer at IDruk Solutions, a software development firm based in Thimphu


Kinley Wangchuk

Kinley Wangchuk is commonly known as Gangchu and he is serial entrepreneur. He owns  Radio Valley 99.9 and Mojo's Park. (the famous pub in Thimphu)

Dorji Tashi
Executive Director

Dorji Tashi is the Executive Director of the Loden Foundation, a Civil Society Organization that empowers youth through entrepreneurship and education. He has masters in business administration (MBA) from the United Kingdom complementing his BA in Bhutanese Language and Cultural Studies. During his eight years of service with Loden, Dorji has trained over a thousand aspiring entrepreneurs and helped 130 entrepreneurs to start new ventures besides other social projects. He sits on various national advisory committees such as Civil Society Organization (CSO), Bhutan Trust Fund and Small Grant Project of United Nation's Office, Bhutan. Dorji has worked for Ministry of Information and Communications as a language development officer and Bhutan Broadcasting Service as a part-time Radio Jokey before joining Loden. He joined Loden in 2008

Jamyang Tashi is co-founder of QED Consultancy Firm.

Ram Bdr. Gurung is Head of Entreprenuership and Self Employment Division, Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour & Human Resources.

Gillian S

Gillian is a volunteer with Australian Volunteers for International Development, an Australian Government initiative. She is working as an Entrepreneurship Adviser to the Entrepreneurship and Self Employment Division of the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources. Gillian is a specialist in Marketing and Strategic Planning, having spent many years as an academic with Monash University and RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. Jeroen Uittenbogaard

Senior Lecturer at Royal Thimphu College Jeroen Uittenbogaard is originally from The Netherlands and holds both a Master degree in Information Management from Tilburg University as well a Master degree in Public Information Management from TIAS Business School. He worked for 12 years in a variety of organizations in The Netherlands as a (senior) project/program manager before coming to Bhutan in 2014 to join the Royal Thimphu College (RTC) as a Senior Lecturer. 


Tharchen Tharchen

Since founding the iBEST company in August 2014, Tharchen leads the company as the Chief Executive Officer spearheading product development and strategies. He is a passionate trainer and trained public speaker with the specialization in project management and business development.He has a Bachelor’s Degree in life science from Sherubtse College (affiliated with Delhi University, India). He underwent professional trainings in International Project Administration and Agribusiness SME Development from Denmark, and Business Process Outsourcing in Infosys, Bangalore, India. Having availed numerous courses in Bhutan in the field of entrepreneurship, research, project management, mentoring and curriculum design, Tharchen has a broad overview of diverse professions

Anurag Maloo is an active Indo-Asian startup innovation Community Architect and entrepreneurship ecosystem builder. As a Regional Manager for South & Central Asia with Techstars and Startup Weekend, he is responsible for the cultivation and sustained growth of vibrant startup ecosystems in India, SAARC nations and Central Asian countries. He is incredibly passionate about fostering entrepreneurship, grassroots leadership, and building strong collaborative startup communities. He has been involved in various startup initiatives, community empowerment and leadership development programs, and bringing innovation into the corporate world. With his proven track records of experience cultivating key influencers within diverse geopolitical regions, Anurag has succeeded in creating inclusive startup communities in turbulent and struggling, yet developing ecosystems and emerging economies of Asia. Yonten Lhamo  has graduated with B.A in Interior Design Assumption University of Thailand.  
She is the promoter of Yon10 Animation & Designs which is located in Thimphu TechPark.
